The Story
At the center of the Aldran Galaxy, aboard a bustling space station, lies the headquarters of the Super Star Cadets. Lead by the infallible Persephone Platinum, the SSC is an altruistic intergalactic organization that offers support
and assistance to planets in need. The story of the first season centers around the adventures of two specific Cadets, Guy Granite and Tink Tourmaline, as they explore the universe aboard the Escargot in search of legendary
artifacts.
Part scifi, part fantasy, with a gargantuan dollop of adventure, Super Star Cadets: Stories from Space reaches into the far corners of the universe to bring you tales of distant planets, obscure alien civilizations,
boundless magic, and daring, dangerous missions.
This serialized space saga weaves together plotlines from the past, present and future — introducing exciting new characters while bringing back such beloved favorites
as Cy B0rG, Henrietta, Quinn Quartz, Sophie Sapphire, and (of course) Papaya.
Full Name: Guy Granite
Home Planet: Luma
Cadet Number: 0806
Role: Pilot
Trusty Gadget: Staff of Transformation
Quote: “I’ll get you anywhere before you can say ‘hyperspace’.”
When Guy Granite was just a child, his home planet Luma was invaded by an evil alien race. Super Star Cadet patrols were sent to help the injured, protect valuable historical landmarks, and provide assistance in battle. Because of their courageous support, Luma was saved. Inspired by the valiance of the Super Star Cadets, Guy decided to join them as soon as he was old enough, so he too could help protect the galaxy.
During training, Guy’s piloting skills shined and he was given command over the Escargot. Now, along with his best friend Tink, he travels the universe to preserve legendary artifacts before they are lost to the annals of time, or other more dangerous forces.
Guy also tells really lame jokes, though he’s trying his best to improve them.
Fun fact: Guy was named after Jude’s pet turtle.
Full Name: Tamara Tourmaline, a.k.a. Tink
Home Planet: Vellum
Cadet Number: 0732
Role: Engineer
Trusty Gadget: Particular Ray Gun
Quote: “I can build anything out of anything!”
Tamara “Tink” Tourmaline grew up on planet Vellum and was never interested in anything other than technology. Even as a child, she built machines that would do her chores for her. Her non-stop tinkering earned her the nickname Tink. Her mother, who was also a Super Star Cadet, nurtured this talent, bringing her all kinds of trinkets from expeditions to other planets for Tink to experiment with.
Tink soon outgrew the technology that any one planet could offer, and joined the Super Star Cadets to see what else was out there. She made significant improvement to the Escargot which turned it from a standard SSC-issue ship to the fastest hunk of metal in the galaxy.
Her other talents include pancake art and close-up magic.
Fun fact: Tink’s character is based on Milo’s younger sister who is now a robotics engineer.
Full Name: Persephone Platinum a.k.a. P.P.
Home Planet: Arden
Cadet Number: 0001
Role: Director of the Super Star Cadets
Trusty Gadget: Commander’s Cane
Quote: “Everyone can be infinite.”
Of all the creatures in the universe, none are more courageous and steadfast than P.P. To no one’s surprise, she quickly rose through the SSC ranks and cemented her legacy as the all-time youngest Director of the SSC. Under her guidance, the organization has grown and become stronger than ever.
P.P. herself is a force to be reckoned with. Though she’s kind and good-hearted, if you cross her she’ll kick your butt into the deepest regions of space. She is immensely popular and well-loved, but also seems to have a dark past that she doesn’t like to talk about…
Fun fact: P.P. was the first character that Milo designed for the series. She was originally to be the main protagonist.
Full Name: Dante Diamond
Home Planet: [UNKNOWN]
Cadet Number: [UNKNOWN]
Role: Captain of the Constellation
Trusty Gadget: The Cutting Edge
Quote: “The Escargot will be mine.”
Dante Diamond is the leader of a fearsome interstellar pirate battalion, as well as Guy and Tink’s arch-nemesis. He used to be a Super Star Cadet before defecting to seek a more profitable venture. He now pilots a ship called the Constellation, in which he and his grisly gang of buccaneers fly around the universe searching for treasure to plunder. Having heard about the Escargot and all the artifacts it transports Dante became hell-bent on owning it.
Thanks to Dante, Guy and Tink have had many near-disasters, but they always manage to thwart his attempts.
Fun fact: Besides Guy and Tink, Dante Diamond has appeared in more SSC issues than any other character, including Cy and Henrietta!
Full Name: CBRG-30488-X a.k.a Cy B0rG
Home: Escargot
Role: Security and Maintenance
Quote: “You should not do that, but since you are going to, here is some advice to minimize risk.”
Cy B0rG was born of ingenuity and accident, as well as a bit of laziness.
Tired of the tedious maintenance of the Escargot, Tink built a robot using an upgraded version of a blueprint she had been developing. She synched the droid’s central operating unit with the Escargot’s mainframe to automate as much of the process as she could. But then, during a confrontation with Dante’s henchmen, Tink accidentally shot Cy with her Particular Ray Gun... and brought him to life.
Cy quickly became a welcome addition to the team, helping Guy and Tink on their missions, advising them on the best course of action, and taking greater responsibility over the Escargot. He loves classical music and animals.
Fun fact: Cy was only supposed to appear in a 10-issue arc, but readers loved him so much that he became a main character in the series.
The Escargot is Guy and Tink’s home-away-from-home. Because of Guy’s expert piloting and Tink’s ingenious modifications, the Escargot gained quite a reputation within the Super Star Cadets, and across the universe. Unfortunately, this meant that it also became a target for space pirates who coveted it for themselves, which is how the duo first encountered the nefarious Dante Diamond.
The Escargot houses whatever artifacts that Guy and Tink have yet to deliver to HQ. Guy dubbed their vault the Treasure Jungle. While the duo are expected to transport any artifact they come across immediately to the SSC Vault, they often prefer to track down several interstellar objects along the way and only head back to HQ once the Treasure Jungle is at capacity.
One of Tink’s most useful additions to the Escargot is a sentient android called Cy B0rG. Cy lives on the ship and is connected to its mainframe. He performs routine maintenance, functions as the ship’s security system, and guards the Treasure Jungle to keep an eye on the unpredictable and often dangerous artifacts.
Fun fact: The Escargot was originally going to be called the SS.Nail. It was always going to look like a snail shell.
When new Cadets are initiated into the SSC, they choose a special gadget and a modifying element. The special gadgets are powerful pieces that range from tools to tech to weaponry, and each Cadet can pick the one they want. Cadets may also select a modifying element which, when added to the gadget, creates an almost magical effect.
Guy Granite chose the staff and the transformation element, creating the Staff of Transformation. It has the power to transform into anything Guy wants, and comes in handy while exploring alien landscapes.
Tink Tourmaline chose the ray gun and the unpredictability element, creating the Particular Ray Gun. It has the ability to cause an unpredictable yet very particular effect on whatever targets she shoots. The effects, though often comical, are also strategic, serving Tink well in the heat of battle.
Other examples of special modified gadgets are Dante Diamond’s unbreakable sword The Cutting Edge, Quinn Quartz’s restorative Healing Cloak, and Sophie Sapphire’s Shield of Protection that guards against physical, elemental, and psychic effects.
